Honda built its first car engine in 1963, but its DNA goes back to motorcycle racing in the 1950s. That motorcycle heritage shows up everywhere — high revs, light weight, aluminum everything. VTEC came directly from F1 development before reaching production cars in 1989.

The 2.4L K24 four-cylinder, introduced in 2002, became Honda's most influential modern engine — powering Accords, CR-Vs, Civics Si, Elements, Acura TSXs and TLXs. The K24's reputation for crossing 300,000 miles is well-documented and it's the most-swapped Honda engine in the world.

In 2016 Honda launched the L15B7 — a 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder that's now standard on Civic, Accord 1.5T, and CR-V. Honda also leads with the i-MMD/eHEV two-motor hybrid in Accord Hybrid, Insight, and CR-V Hybrid.
